Whistler, Pemberton athletes strut their stuff at B.C. Winter Games

While the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino were wrapping up, B.C.’s future Olympians were just getting into gear for the BC Winter Games in Greater Trail, Feb. 23 to 26.
More than 2,000 young athletes converged on the Trail/Rossland area to pursue sporting dreams. Pemberton’s Lisi Schranz made her dreams come true with a gold medal in the juvenile girls five-kilometre cross-country ski race.
Unlike Team Canada in the 2006 Winter games in Torino, Whistler athletes helped bring home the silver medal in men’s hockey. (note: Team Canada in Whistler 2010 Olympics – gold all the way).
Garrett Milan was chosen from Whistler to play on the Vancouver-Squamish zone team. Nadine Crowe was chosen among the female hockey players in Whistler and her team placed fifth.
In overall results for all disciplines, the Vancouver-Squamish Zone placed third with 91 medals including 33 gold, 32 silver and 26 bronze. Let’s hope in 2010 Whistler can host the accommodations for all the medals the Canadians will bring home.
