Well, it sounds like it’s started. The CBC reports that a tour company has just started selling hotel and flight packages for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games.  And the price tag comes in at ….drum roll please…. $25,999 excluding tickets to Olympic events. Ok, we’ll that’s for their most expensive package, but you get the point.

I’d be curious if these are accommodations in Vancouver or vacation rentals in Whistler, BC, Canada. Then again, Squamish which is about an hour outside of Whistler, may also have accommodations. So will this be condos in Whistler by owners, or townhomes or other hotels? Whichever it is, Whistler will be the key place to stay in Whistler during the 2010 Olympics. According to the CBC Vancouver is launching a spectator accommodation program in 2008, linking visitors and hotels. The program will encourage hotels to keep rates reasonable, but of course hotels and tour companies are free to charge whatever the market will bear. We shall see what happens and if this includes surrounding cities as Whistler Blackcomb, Pemberton and Squamish.
