Vancouver 2010 is about half way in its target of securing about 3,000 high-quality rooms to house the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the National Olympic Committees from participating nations, and athletes’ families during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Not to mention the limited space in Whistler for future development for more accommodations for tourists and vacationers to Whistler, BC, Canada.
As of July 1, 2005 VANOC had secured 1,300 rooms in the Whistler area where some Olympic competitions and all the Paralympic competitions will be held. Makes you think that possibly they make seek home-owners with vacation rental homes, condos, townhouses to help support the Olympians. Wouldn’t that me something – it would be just like an exchange program. The Olympic committee 1,300 rooms in Whistler area, rooms are not limited only to hotels and hotel-type properties that offer front-desk and housekeeping service. Many more rooms are needed.
Maybe the boom in Squamish will help support some of these accommodations needed. Accommodations in Squamish and in Whistler cover the range of cottages, homes, condos, and include all the amenities athletes would need. Just think, the gold medalist for the downhill ski competition could literally finish his run right into his cottage backyard and jump right into the hot tub. Ha ha – ok, dare to think – but if accommodations in Whistler become scare, and Vancouver and Squamish can’t support the additional accommodations among the boom in rentals when the tourists come in – where is there to stay ? Pemberton perhaps – who knows, the 2010 and rental accommodation shortage just might be what Pemberton needs to put it on the map.
