Whistler Blackcomb Summer Glacier Ski Season - Ready?

Tuesday, June 6th, 2006

Whistler (British Columbia), Canada - So, ready for a weekend Whistler retreat to take advantage of the snow-filled winter season at Whistler Blackcomb …well the show will go down this summer with glacier skiing and snowboarding. Finding a accommodations in Whistler for rent over the summer shouldn’t be to difficult - I mean you have the hotels, lodgest and motels in Whistler you can stay - but why not take advantage of owner direct places - condo’s, apartments, homes, cottages and bargain for a good rate. Sure it may not be a bed and breakfast, but if you’re a diehard for the glaciers and party hard in the village, then all you’re looking for is a place to stay.

Glacier skiing and riding on Blackcomb Mountain’s Horstman Glacier begins today (June 5th) and runs through to the end of July.

My recommendation - find a Whistler accommodation or vacation rental near the village or upper village, close to the chairlifts. Quick and easy access from your accommodation will get you up the mountain quicker. Finding rentals in Whistler for places to stay shouldn’t be to hard - though I recommend RSVP’ing before arriving.

“We’ve got lots of snow to create incredible camp terrain features this summer,” says Stu Osborne, Whistler Blackcomb Parks & Glacier Operations Supervisor. “There is lots of snow on the glacier to build a large variety of features and to bring back the public half pipe.”

Starting today, the summer glacier operation entices the best pro skiers and riders to coach and train with summer camps like Momentum, Camp of Champions and High North Ski Camp. Each camp caters to all ages and skill levels and teaching the latest tricks and techniques to the willing. Every year the camps get better with more innovative terrain and every year the big names show up to coach and impress.

So when you leave your condo or lodge and ready to hit the mountain, be sure to check out The Horstman Hut. Located at the top of the 7th Heaven chair, The Horseman Hut is open daily for lunch or snacks. While enjoying the view from the patio, top it off with a BBQ at 7,400 feet (unless you already chowed down from a BQ at your place in Whistler). “The Horstman Hut Patio is the best place to be in the summer. The view, the sun, the BBQs and of course the skiing are all part of the great atmosphere on Blackcomb,” continues Osborne. “Many guests come up for the sightseeing, to eat lunch in the high alpine or to check out the glacier action – it’s a great experience.”
