Whistler Mountain - Winter Season 1 Week Early

Couldn’t ask for better timing. Warm up the wax, unwrap the new snowboard and check for any holes in those gloves. It’s time for those weekend get-a-way’s to Whistler Blackcomb mountain to carve up some powder. After a wicked rain storm that swept (and still sweeping) through Vancouver, Squamish and Whistler, Whistler mountain is getting a nice early crop of fresh snow, giving it the blessing to open 1 week early for the winter ski season.

It’s advised to start scheduling and booking your Whistler accommodations now for your weekend stay or winter vacation, as with the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday upon us, there will be a flood of travellers seeking accommodations in Whistler - condo’s, hotels, cottages and all types. Book early with some Whistler accommodation agencies or home owner direct places to rent in Whistler, and you may find some early discounts for the winter ski season.

“This snow is a major boost for early season conditions at Whistler Blackcomb,” says Stuart Rempel, Whistler Blackcomb’s senior vice president of marketing and sales. “The conditions will be prime for the upcoming US Thanksgiving holiday and our official opening weekend.”

With so much new going on this year on the hill - the new Symphony Express Quad and the addition of heli-skiing operations to name just two - the early opening is a great way to kick things off.

“I didn’t think we’d get up there this quick,” says local skier Duncan Small. “It’s going to be a great year. I can’t wait for Saturday.”
