Will the 2010 Olympics be facing an accommodation shortage with the hundreds of international reporters, media, organizers and others attempt to book their place to stay? With the world wide attention focussed on Whistler 2010, accommodations may be a huge shortage and schools and trailers may be the place to lay your head if Whistler faces this bed shortage crisis.

While the Whistler hotel accommodations are many, you can expect the owners of Whistler accommodations - the condo’s, cottages and homes, will be up for rent, and with a high price. The opportunities for owner direct accommodations for rent in Whistler should be tremendous for these home owners.

John Furlong, Vancouver 2010 CEO said yesterday. “We’re looking at temporary accommodation and collaborating with community on it to see what’s possible.” He said both trailers and schools are being considered.

Whilster housing and accommodations is one of the things organizers of the 2010 Olympics need to lock down. The supply of Whistler accommodations versus the demand may be out weighed leading up to big event. The 2002 bid book guaranteed 1,786 hotel rooms, and 752 condos in Whistler for officials, sponsors and media, while 1611 new rooms were in various stages of development.

A proposal to host the reports on a cruise ship moored in Squamish was vetoed by the International Olympic Committee as being too far from competition venues. But when you consider the lack of supply in Whistler, and the next closest cities to supply accommodations for 2010 will be Squamish and Pemberton, the option for 2010 accommodations in Squamish and Pemberton is not a bad a idea.

I expect between now and leading up to the Whistler 2010 Olympics, we’ll see more problems arise with the lack of Whistler accomodations (2010 olympic whistler accommodations)available for the media, and for the tourists and travellers to the city. Vancouver and Squamish will definately feel the overflow - but if you’re coming all the way from across the globe for the Olympics, you bet your stay that these travellers will be demanding for an accommodation and place to stay in the mountains of Whistler, BC, Canada.
