I’m dreaming of a Whistler Vacation

68711840_369bb7969c_m.jpgIt’s been a long couple of weeks in my neck of the woods. Two and a half weeks ago, my oldest child (who is 4), came down with the chicken pox just in time for Thanksgiving. Our traditional way to celebrate is to travel to be with family, a crowd of about 20 including aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. Not this year. No biggie, except that by the end of the week, in addition to the chicken pox, she had a raging ear infection and my youngest child, who just turned 3, had a horrendous cough. It was right about then that visions of Whistler British Columbia Canada started to pop into my head. All I needed was a plane ticket and a reservation to stay at any area Whistler Vacation rental. Mentally, I was already there breaking in my new skis and loving every minute of the cold, crisp air entering my lungs.

Despite 2 days of an antibiotic, my daughter’s ear drum ruptured. Fun. And my son, who appeared to have a virus of some kind, was now being treated for pneumonia. The kids are usually very healthy. But man, when they get sick, they don’t mess around! At the end of week two at the germ party, child #1 was feeling much better and child #2 acted as if all was well in his world. His only minor exception was a fever that wouldn’t go away. Pneumonia is tough to beat, especially when you’re only 3. We figured he was still recovering from that. But when his fever was still lingering on Monday, we were a little concerned. Until we noticed a few red, blistery bumps. Sigh: chicken pox. Three days later, he’s covered from head to toe in the red, itchy rash. And between rounds of administering his fever medicine and anti-itch lotion, I’m dreaming of a Whistler Vacation.

In my dream, I have awesome Whistler accommodations, and I can hit the slopes right from my door. Pristine, fluffy snow replaces icky germs, and the fresh air takes my breath away. All of my stresses dissipate as I fly down the mountain full of joy and freedom. And at the end of a day full of snow sports, I can sit by a roaring fire and enjoy a hot drink that warms me up even to my finger tips.

Yes, a Whistler Vacation , even in a dream, is way better than the chicken pox!
