Already we’re 1 1/2 years away from the monumental 2010 Olympic winter games in Whistler and Vancouver and the locals are finally waking up to vacate their homes over the Olympic weeks and put their accommodations up for rent to the vast number of foreign travellers anticipated to visit the city.
Speaking with a few locals in Vancouver and Whistler, its not too surprising to hear individuals wanting to position their vacations around the time of the Olympics. They general consensious is they just don’t want to deal with the crowds and traffic during this time…and hey, why not make a buck while I’m at it.
2010 Olympic accommodations in Whistler and Vancouver during the 2010 Olympics are now ranging on the market from three to four times regular rental rates, depending on the luxury status and location of the accommodation. Some of the more luxurious homes and accommodations for rent during the Olympics are ranging from $50,000 to $90,000 and up for the month. And back in Vancouver, we spoke with an individual placing their False Creek two bedroom condominium for $30K for the full month….but then again, this one is located near the Olympic Village across from Yaletown.
For the average home owner or property manager in Whistler, those ones with the 1-4 bedroom Whistler home or condo are now fill up the market to fill their vacancies over the Olympic period. Many now turning online to promote their accommodations as a “Whistler Olympic accommodation“ to capitalize on families and groups from abroad seeking rental accommodations by scouring the web for availability.

Though it will be a owners market with the rental pricing raising every quarter for the Olympics, a tipping point will come for those who leave it to late to find their perfect Whister accommodation rental for the 2010 Olympic event.
