Province’s decision to freeze property assessments reflects sales volumes, values

While it still remains to be seen what municipal property tax rates will be this year, residents will at least be guaranteed that their share of the tax burden will stay the same or go down compared to last year.

On Monday, homeowners across the province received notice from B.C. Assessment, which determines the approximate value of homes based on sales figures. Because the assessments were made in July, before the economy declined, the province passed special legislation in November that homes be assessed at the lower of July 1, 2008 or July 1, 2007 values. 2009 World Cup events and accommodations in Whistler

2009 World Cups in Whistler, BC.

Whistler Olympic Park in Whistler, BC, Canada is the chosen venue to host the Cross Country-Skiing and Nordic Combined World Cup events for the month of January 2009. Accommodations in Whistler will become scarce, but with the number of hotels and owner direct vacation rentals and accommodations, Whistler is expected to fulfill all accommodation needs for the 2009 World Cup events.

Cross-country skiing has been a competitive event since the 1700’s when the Norwegian army started holding their own competitions. Men’s cross country-skiing became an Olympic event during the first ever Olympic Winter Games in 1924. The first Winter Games was held in Chamonix, France. Women’s cross-country skiing on the other hand didn’t become an Olympic event until 1952 in Oslo. (more…)

Almost every day in the last 2 weeks when you turn on the local news, it seems a new avalanche in the BC mountains has claimed another skier, snowboarder, hiker or snowmobile life. Could Whistler be susceptible to an avalanche too?
