Cross-country skiing has been a competitive event since the 1700’s when the Norwegian army started holding their own competitions. Men’s cross country-skiing became an Olympic event during the first ever Olympic Winter Games in 1924. The first Winter Games was held in Chamonix, France. Women’s cross-country skiing on the other hand didn’t become an Olympic event until 1952 in Oslo. The cross-country skiing events are scheduled between Jan 15 to Jan 17, 2009.
Nordic combined is a specialized event consisting of cross-country skiing, ski jumping and physical endurance. The Nordic combined competition format for the 2009 World Cup event in Whistler will be one competition jump immediately followed by a 10k race. This is the first time since Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic Winter Games that both events will be held at the same location. The Nordic combined events are scheduled to happen between Jan16 and Jan 18, 2009.
