Skiing and Biking in Whistler

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

The ski season opens in Whistler, BC on November 27, 2009.  The season is usually exciting each year, but this year, the 09/10 season, is especially exciting because of the 2010 Winter Games.  Whistler is excited because they’re hosting several Olympic events.
Whistler Ski Resort, which is more formally known as Whistler-Blackcomb, named after its two main surrounding mountains, has an extra-long ski season.  It typically opens during Thanksgiving weekend, and ends in June.  Spring skiing, anyone?
Whistler is 1 ½ hours north of Vancouver.  The town has its own airport, so you can fly there directly, or arrive at Vancouver first and then either take a shuttle or rent a car and drive the scenic Sea to Sky highway.  We recommend, however, that you reconsider driving there yourself, especially if you’re not used to winter driving.
The choices for skiing at Whistler are almost limitless.  It has over two hundred trails, (more…)

Where To Find a Great Whistler Rental

Monday, September 28th, 2009

You’ve planned to take your winter vacation in glorious Whistler, now the only thing you need is to find a great Whistler rental which will suit all your needs for the time you’re there (whether you plan to stay for a night or two or several weeks).

Your needs may differ depending on whether you’re planning on traveling alone, as a couple, with the kids or with a group. Of course, your budget will also be a consideration. Of course, there are Whistler rentals that suit people with very high budgets and high expectations, and there are rentals for people on the tightest holiday budgets.

Whistler Condo Rentals

greatwhistlerrental.pngThere are numerous Whistler condo rentals available for the winter months (some are available all year round, for those who are happy to enjoy Whistler’s mountainous beauty when it’s not covered in snow).

There are over 500 Whistler condo rentals available, but of course, if you want your choice you have to be quick, because some book out very fast.

Some Whistler rentals are truly luxurious condos, many as large as your average home and with every amenity you could imagine. These Whistler condo rentals may range in size from single bedroom condos to those with four or more bedrooms (which is great if you’re part of a group).

For Whistler rental accommodation that can’t be beaten for price or convenience, you really can’t go past a fantastic Whistler condo rental.

Private Home Whistler Rentals

Many people rent out their private homes in winter, at competitive rates. These Whistler rentals are a great idea for the family or for a small group. The great thing about these home Whistler rentals is that they are competitively priced, they come in a variety of styles (whether you want something old fashioned and traditional or something ultra modern there will be a Whistler rental to suit), and they offer a real atmosphere of home.

If you’re on a tight budget you may prefer not to eat out for every meal, and when you have a home rental complete with a kitchen, you can do your own meal preparation, saving you a ton of money, especially when you’re with a large family or group.

Private home Whistler rentals are a great way to enjoy your winter vacation at Whistler at a great price, and they offer all the comforts of home too.

The Holidays in Whistler, BC

Friday, September 25th, 2009

While doing some research for holiday events in the beautiful, picturesque town of Whistler, BC, I came upon an IMDb entry for a holiday special that will air in Canada this December.  It’s called “Christmas in Whistler,” and it’s an “all ages old time variety show” (as described by IMDb) that showcases the resort town.  It stars Canadian country music artists George Canyon, Aaron Pritchett and Jessie Farrell, who are featured in a family concert on the show.  I suspect that this TV show is much like the events that will take place in Whistler this holiday season, with loads of snow, music, and winter fun.  I also found out that there’s a holiday album called “Christmas in Whistler,” which was recorded by Canadian singer/songwriter Mick Valla-Lee.  The title song is played every year in (more…)

Squamish – the outdoor adventure capital

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Those visiting Whistler and Vancouver for the 2010 Olympic winter games will be sure to pass through Squamish BC as they travel between the two cities on the Sea-to-Sky highway. Squamish is a small community in the Canadian province of British Columbia, located at the north end of Howe Sound on the Sea to Sky Highway. The population of the Squamish, including Indian Reserves of the Squamish Nation not governed by the municipality, is estimated at 15,256.

Squamish BC as a town had its beginning during the construction of the Pacific Great Eastern Railway in the 1910s, and was the first southern terminus of that railway (now a part of CN), and the town remains important in the operations of the line and also the port. Forestry has traditionally been the main industry in the area, and the town’s largest employer was the Western Forest Products pulp mill. However, Western Pulp, Squamish Operation permanently ceased operation on January 26, 2006. (more…)
