Enjoy Whistler This Winter

There are all kinds of events in Whistler, BC, all year long.  Two events that will occur during the 2009/2010 ski season worth noting are The 2010 Telus Ski and Snowboard Festival, which occurs yearly in Whistler, and the 2010 Paralympic Games, which occurs every four years.  Whistler is proud to host both events this year.
The Telus Ski and Snowboard Festival, which has been called “the defining celebration of Whistler,” will occur April 16-25, 2010.  It is a ten day and night exhibition of the latest innovations in the skiing and snowboarding world.  In addition, it is one of Canada’s best and largest outdoor concert series and shows off the region’s best in action sports, lifestyle fashion, photography, and film.  It’s truly a celebration of mountain life, and is the “mother of all end-of-season parties.”  It is a festival that has been imitated all over the world.
If the 2009 festival was any indication, this year’s celebration will be even more epic.  There will be free outdoor music concerts everyday on the main stage at Whistler’s Village, making it the biggest free outdoor concert series in North America.  Sports lovers can enjoy major snowboarding, skiing, and skateboarding events.  There will be film premieres, family activities, and dog shows.  Mountain culture will be on display everywhere.  There will be fashion shows and art displays, making the festival truly a cultural experience for all.Olympic Logo
Whistler is also extremely proud to host most of the competitions and the Closing Ceremonies of the 2010 Paralympic Games, held in Vancouver and its outlying areas March 12-21, 2010.  Whistler will host alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, and the biathlon.  It’s an ideal location to view the athleticism and inspiration of these outstanding athletes.  Those that participate in the alpine skiing events (downhill, super-g, giant slalom, slalom, and super combined) race down beautiful Whistler Mountain at speeds of more than 100 kilometers per hour while tearing down vertical drops of 120 to 800 meters.  The cross-country and biathlon events will take place amidst the amazing Callaghan Valley, and included men’s and women’s individual competitions with distances ranging from 2.5 to 20 kilometers.
The closing ceremonies of the Paralympic Games will be held in Whistler, at its stunning Whistler Village, a perfect outdoor venue for such an event.  It’s also the perfect place to share the inspirational stories of the Games’ athletes and everyone involved.  Sure, the Paralympics are “the baby sister” of the Olympics, held two weeks before, but every athlete will have an amazing story to tell, and Whistler is excited to give them an opportunity to tell them.
