Olympic 2010 Lodging
Hotels throughout the Vancouver area are preparing for the influx of
athletes, spectators, and members of the media that will descend upon British Columbia for 2010 Winter Olympic Games. It’s sure to be a historic time, and the preparations have been going on for several months, and in many cases, several years.
Visitors have a wide variety of choices in accommodations scattered throughout Vancouver and Whistler, which will permit them to be close to all the competitions. The lodging options, offering all kinds of unique features and catering to all preferences and budgets, are huge—from quiet retreats, to family-oriented hotels, to spa-like resorts, to those that allow pets to come along.
You can choose to be near the airport right in downtown Vancouver, or if you want the option of getting away from it all after a long day of viewing the historic competitions, you can choose a hotel in the Whistler resort mountain retreat area. No matter where you choose to stay, it’s certain that you’ll be able to find the perfect accommodation that will fit all your needs, whether you’re traveling alone or with your family.
Whistler may be the best choice for you, since many events will be held there. Even with its smaller size, Whistler has a great variety of accommodations. The best choice is the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, located at the base of the spectacular Blackcomb Mountain, in the Whistler’s Village. The Fairmont is one of the most popular ski resorts in the area, and in addition to skiing, offers many other amenities, such as a golf course and a spa.
If you want to stay close to the Vancouver airport, there are several comfortable hotels to choose from. The Best Western Kings Inn, for example, is located only about a half-hour from the airport and is one of the more affordable accommodations in downtown Vancouver. It’s also near many attractions, like the Burnaby Village Museum, Queen Elizabeth Park, and van Dusen Botanical Gardens. If you want a more upscale hotel, the Coast Plaza Hotel & Suites, located only a short distance from Stanley Park and the English Bay beaches, may be the place for you.
There are more affordable choices as well. For example, Vancouver is home to several hostels that will accommodate hikers, bikers, and backpackers to enjoy the 2010 Winter Olympics. There are all kinds of package deals, even at this late date, which includes your tickets for any and all events, your airfare, your accommodations, and any attractions you might want to visit while you’re there.
