Olympic 2010 Whistler Events

When Vancouver was named as the Host City of the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, Whistler provided the ideal location for some of the skiing events. Since the Olympics were awarded to Vancouver and Whistler in 1998 preparations have been underway to make this a fantastic event for competitors and viewers alike.

Whistler itself will be home to three of the major competition venues for the 2010 Olympic Games, including: the Alpine Skiing events on Whistler Mountain, and the Bobsled, Luge and Skeleton events at the Sliding Centre on Blackcomb Mountain, as well as the Nordic, Biathlon and Ski Jumping Competition events in the Callaghan Valley. For the Paralympic Games, Whistler will be host to all the Alpine Skiing events as well as Biathlon and Cross-Country events.

During the 2010 Olympics, the Whistler Olympic Village will be home to around 2,500 athletes, as well as staff and officials from all across the globe. This means Whistler is going to be the place to be during the 2010 Olympics.

There are many accommodation options for visitors to Whistler during the 2010 ski season and during the Olympics. Guests during this time will have access to at the vast majority of the mountain (at least 90% of the runs), meaning not only can visitors experience Whistler’s best skiing and snowboarding, but they can also witness some of the Olympic’s most exciting winter events.

Whistler has been upgraded in preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympics, so transport between Whistler and nearby communities will be ideal (extra bus services will be running during this time), and all runs and lifts will be at their best.

Many of Whistler’s finest hotels are offering special accommodation packages for visitors to the 2010 Olympics. The Fairmont Chateau Whistler is one of Whistler’s best hotels and they performed an integral part in securing the Olympics at Whistler for the 2010 games, as they committed many of their rooms to officials and the organizing committee.
