India Meets Whistler

What does India have to do with Canada? How can you compare the heat and year-round sunshine of India with the ever changing weather in Canada? How can you even compare the weather in Halifax, Nova Scotia with that of Whistler, British Columbia? You can’t. But, with the magic of Hollywood, any place in the world can be made to look like any place you need in  your film!

The filming of Mission Impossible: 4 has begun in Vancouver, British Columbia. It might seem a far stretch to think that B.C. could pass for India, but Hollywood is magic! On the other hand, the Western Himalayas are extremely cold. Places like Gulmarg, Manali and Pahalgam are usually under several feet of snow from December to March. If the scene happens to take place in these areas, the Rockies are a perfect substitute! Whistler and Blackcomb mountains could fill in quite nicely, as well!jan13

However, not all scenes take place in the mountains. Mission Impossible: 4 crews turned downtown Vancouver into an Indian street scene, complete with vendors and faux Indian road signs. Tom Cruise ran through the “Indian” street near the Vancouver Convention Centre, to the great pleasure of all the gawkers who braved the cold to catch a glimpse of the star.

As with the other Mission Impossible movies, Tom Cruise is again the star. This means you will see the star and his family in Vancouver throughout the next few months. Whenever they get a chance they slip up to Whistler. Whistler has been a favourite vacation destination for the Cruise family for many years!

If you have been aching to visit Whistler and you love Tome Cruise, this might be the perfect time to finally make that trip! Rates are down and crowds are low. You can stay at the world famous Fairmont Chateau Whistler and have the time of your life!
