Olympic 2010 Whistler Events

When Vancouver was named as the Host City of the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, Whistler provided the ideal location for some of the skiing events. Since the Olympics were awarded to Vancouver and Whistler in 1998 preparations have been underway to make this a fantastic event for competitors and viewers alike.

Whistler itself will be home to three of the major competition venues for the 2010 Olympic Games, including: the Alpine Skiing events on Whistler Mountain, and the Bobsled, Luge and Skeleton events at the Sliding Centre on Blackcomb Mountain, as well as the Nordic, Biathlon and Ski Jumping Competition events in the Callaghan Valley. For the Paralympic Games, Whistler will be host to all the Alpine Skiing events as well as Biathlon and Cross-Country events.

2010 Olympics in Whistler

Whistler is well known as being one of North America’s premier skiing destinations, and the 2010 season is shaping up to be even more exciting with Whistler being the Official Alpine Skiing venue for the 2010 Olympic games.

While the 2010 Olympics in Whistler will add a new level of excitement for visitors to the region, this doesn’t mean keen skiers and snowboarders will miss out this season. Many visitors are afraid that with the Olympics, there will be less access to the mountain, and this has been demonstrated during other Olympic games with regular guests often staying away for fear of crowding and a less pleasant holiday experience.

2009 World Cup events and accommodations in Whistler

2009 World Cups in Whistler, BC.

Whistler Olympic Park in Whistler, BC, Canada is the chosen venue to host the Cross Country-Skiing and Nordic Combined World Cup events for the month of January 2009. Accommodations in Whistler will become scarce, but with the number of hotels and owner direct vacation rentals and accommodations, Whistler is expected to fulfill all accommodation needs for the 2009 World Cup events.

Cross-country skiing has been a competitive event since the 1700’s when the Norwegian army started holding their own competitions. Men’s cross country-skiing became an Olympic event during the first ever Olympic Winter Games in 1924. The first Winter Games was held in Chamonix, France.
