2010 Olympic Accommodations in High Demand

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

The rumour-ville is buzzing of a potential Whistler accommodation rental shortages for the 2010 Whistler Vancouver winter Olympic games. Bamja.com, one of Whistler Blackcombs major rental accommodation online community’s of privately owned accommodations and lodging for rent by owners in Whistler, BC, Canada, offers the the solution to help owners help fill their rental property vacanies leading up to, during and after the 2010 Olympics, hosted in Vancouver and Whistler.

Olympic snow boarder winter gamesA year or two ago when Vancouver and Whistler won the Olympic bid, the Olympic organizers allotted an est. ~1,800 Whistler hotel accommodations, +750 condominiums for officials, sponsors and media, and +1,600 lodging and accommodation rooms under development leading up to the 2010 Olympics.

There is large speculation that far greater lodging and accommodations in Whistler will be required to host the games and all the tourists and travellers visiting the city over the 2 week Olympic period.

While alternative options will be to rent an accommodation in nearby Squamish and Pemberton, and of course Vancouver, anyone travelling to one of North America’s best luxury ski resorts will have a eagerness to take advantage of the opportunity of the Olympic activities and settle their vacation stay right in the city of Whistler and Whistler Village. Whistler Accommodations in Shortage for Whistler 2010?

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

Will the 2010 Olympics be facing an accommodation shortage with the hundreds of international reporters, media, organizers and others attempt to book their place to stay? With the world wide attention focussed on Whistler 2010, accommodations may be a huge shortage and schools and trailers may be the place to lay your head if Whistler faces this bed shortage crisis.

While the Whistler hotel accommodations are many, you can expect the owners of Whistler accommodations – the condo’s, cottages and homes, will be up for rent, and with a high price. The opportunities for owner direct accommodations for rent in Whistler should be tremendous for these home owners.

John Furlong, Vancouver 2010 CEO said yesterday. “We’re looking at temporary accommodation and collaborating with community on it to see what’s possible.” He said both trailers and schools are being considered. (more…)

2010 Olympics Securing Organizers Whistler Accommodations

Monday, February 12th, 2007

Whistler hotel accommodationsJust when you thought securing a Whistler accommodation for the Whistler 2010 (errr Vancouver 2010) Olympics was tough, the Province newspaper reports the Olympic organizers are close to securing just enough beds for themsevles for this major winter event. Keep in mind, with the number of organizers in Whistler for the 2010 Olympics, this doesn’t take into account the media and support staff, and let’s not forget the tens of thousands of tourists who’ll be travelling to Whistler seeking an accommodation in Whistler for the Whistler 2010 Olympics.

Rumour has it, the organizers have placed policies down with the hotels and other accommodations reservation services in Whistler to not accept any pre-bookings of accommodations for travellers during this time until the Olympic organizers have secured their accommodations. Doesn’t seem too fair, but it does create an advantage for those private owners of condo’s, cottages, cabins and homes in Whistler who rent their whistler property out over the season. These owners may have the option to get around this policy, but we anticipate this will create a frenzy of tourists seeking a place to rent in Whistler to seek out the private owners (home owner) Whistler accommodations for the Whistler 2010 event. And for those who can’t find a location in Whistler for the major event, you can bet the next best place they’ll be seeking Whistler 2010 Olympics accommodations will be Squamish and Pemberton (and of course Vancouver). Whister Accommodations for 2010

Friday, December 8th, 2006

Whistler 2010 – almost 3 years away – do you have your Whistler 2010 accommodation secured yet? Well, maybe not, but don’t fret, 2010 accommodations for the Vancouver 2010 / Whistler 2010 Olympics hasn’t sold out yet.

It’s expected, leading up to the last year before the Whistler 2010 olympics, accommodations in the luxury resort will go fast, and at a high price. So don’t worry if you own a rental property in Vancouver, Squamish or Whistler and you haven’t booked your place full yet. Give it time – it will come.

Then again, some analysts expect it to be a competitive market for those seeking to profit by renting their Whistler accommodation to visitor 2010 tourists. With the forethought of the World Cup in South Africa in the same year, and the escalation of world politics and war getting worse, those travellers seeking to make their big travel destination for the year in 2010, may simply pass on Whistler. It’s a thought – but not one I would put to much emphasis on as Whistler is a small market. And those looking to rent out their properties in Whistler shouldn’t have a problem finding takers.
